Product Description Here's a zester that means business! You'll have a mound of zest in seconds flat with minimal effort. This tool also shreds Parmesan and other hard cheeses quickly and efficiently.
Amazon.com Review For fluffy, evenly sized cheese shreds, this is the perfect grater. Its design is based on that of a rasp, the small and efficient woodworking tool. The cutters are especially sharp, which guarantees easy grating. But this also means you'll need to exercise extra caution--no one likes grated knuckles. The large handle allows for a firm grip, and the completely flat grating surface makes it easy to move the cheese across the blades. Carrots, onions, and medium to firm cheeses all worked beautifully with this grater. It's also an excellent choice for larger strips of citrus zest or ginger. --Jill Lightner

Great tool for zest. July 29, 2010 Ryan M. Uhl (Kalamazoo, MI USA) I have used a Microplane for years now in a restaurant. This zester is great for getting a fine light zest off of any citris. Besides that I usually do not use this grater.
I like traditional graters over the Microplane because they will give you a thicker shred. Most of the time, even on citrus, I end up using my fine tooth Calphelon shredder over the Mirocplane. My Calphelon grater has a rubber end that you can rest on the cutting board which makes grating much easier. The Microplane has no rubber end. The Microplane gives you a shred that will almost disappear in food. The thicker shred will show up better in food. Also the thicker shred on citrus helps adds more flavor of the rind to food.
The Microplane is light and has a nice design. The razor teeth on it will dull about as fast as any razor. After a couple of months of use you will start to notice it getting duller. Most will probably not last a year of daily use or they will be dull enough you will want a new one.
Most of my problems with the Microplane are of my personal opinion. I know a lot of chefs that love the Microplane and will use it consistently. You have to try this zester to know if you will love it, like it or hate it. The first time I used one I was totally surprised with the results. They are nice to have around when you need that thin fluffy zest/grate.
Easy to use, and it works well June 30, 2010 Mrs. J (La Mesa, CA) I used this grater today for the first time to grate chocolate after my regular box grater wasn't "cutting it". This does the job. It has a very sharp blade. It does grate things super fine so hang on to your box grater (or other grater versions made by this company) for grating larger pieces. I was using it to grate chocolate for ben & jerry's cherry garcia ice-cream and this did the trick. Though I decided I wanted chocolate chunks instead of shavings, I fortunately had this so I felt like I was able to make that choice instead of not being able to b/c of my other grater. I will use this for grating parmesan cheese for cooking (another reviewer noted - use a bigger grater if you want larger pieces of cheese for garnish) and spices, and in any situation in which I want a finely grated food product. Oh, and it's lightweight, easy to hold, and really looks like a quality product.
Amazing! June 28, 2010 Irene Bailey (Kansas City) This grater is absolutely amazing! it cut down prep time in my kitchen by at least 20-30 minutes and what used to take me forever now just takes seconds! However, one thing that I feel that I should note is that the blades on the grater are very sharp and I've actually cut myself already so watch out! otherwise, this is a lifesaver and belongs in every kitchen.
Excellent Micro Shredder June 11, 2010 Amazon Shopper This is an excellent micro shredder. It does exactly what it promises: shreds any item into small, fine strips. It is very sharp, making shredding easy (though this also means you have to be very careful with your fingers, as they will get cut if you aren't careful). The best thing about it is that it is safe to put in the dishwasher, making cleanup easy and complete. Unlike wooden ones I have owned in the past that had to be cleaned manually, food does not get stuck in the holes and, each time it comes out of the dishwasher, it is as clean as it was when it new. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a micro shredder.
One of my best kitchen tools May 21, 2010 Miloulababus (San Francisco, CA) No more grated nuckles/fingers when zesting lemons. This is so easy to use and I find it easy to clean too if you rinse it off straight away after use. It's really effective and makes zesting quick and painless. I plan on buying one for my sister-in-law too.
